Linlithgow String Orchestra (LSO) was formed in May 2016 by a group of local amateur musicians keen to establish a community orchestra for the Linlithgow area. LSO is affiliated to Making Music which represents and supports amateur vocal and instrumental music and promoting services throughout the United Kingdom.
We are a friendly and enthusiastic amateur orchestra and are always interested in potential collaborations with other musical groups. In March 2023, the orchestra performed ‘Zadok The Priest’ as part of a massed group of musicians and choristers from other Linlithgow based music groups. For the last two consecutive years, the orchestra have accompanied the Church Choir at St. Michael's Parish Church in their annual Christmas Carol Service.
LSO meet weekly on Monday evenings during West Lothian Schools Term-Time at Linlithgow Masonic Hall 7.30-9.30pm, performing at least 2 concerts a year at the end of each term. Membership of the LSO is open to string players approximately Grade 5 standard and above (no audition) - new members are always welcome! Players pay a nominal monthly fee to play in the orchestra which covers the cost of hall hire, music etc.
